In 1978, at the tender age of 15, Lane clinched the title of Bull Riding Champion within the Small Fry Rodeo Association. Fast forward to 1980, during Lane's sophomore year, he proudly claimed the Bull Riding Championship in the Oklahoma Youth Rodeo Association and secured the position of the runner-up Bull Riding Champion in the esteemed National High School Rodeo Association.
